Description

Cancer Care provides an accessible service for service users, carers, friends and family, affected by cancer. Cancer Black Care provides/promotes: • Assistance/help to residents of BAME background develop more effective ways of coping with the impact that cancer has on their lives. Ensuring a culturally-sensitive personalised approach to care. • Supportive drop-in service at the heart of the community, reaching out to the Inclusion Health Groups (formerly refers to "hard to reach" groups) as well as to the communities who identifies themselves as Caribbean, African, Irish, Asians, Chinese and of other Mixed heritage. • Health and social inclusion and tackles the root causes of cancer by organising open health forums on cancer education in the community and locating user friendly non-clinical information as well as raising awareness of risk factors of cancer and healthy living. • Outreach services to the community by using staff and volunteers to visit service users in their homes, hospitals, and hospices, to assess their needs if they are not able to come to the drop-in centres / session. • Organises talks on community radio stations to raise cancer awareness within the community. Cancer Care aims to: (i) Raise awareness of cancer within the Brent communities; (ii) Address diverse and emotional needs of people affected by cancer from the BAME community with culturally sensitive information and personalised advice; (iii) Provide appropriate and relevant information on all aspects of cancer care including recent awareness campaign for vaccination for Covid19 in the BAME community (iv) Provide essential advocacy and support services to those affected by cancer as well as their carers, family and friends; (v) Exercise responsible influence on the provision of health and social care services, ensuring they are culturally sensitive to the diverse needs of Brent's diverse communities; (vi) Work in partnership with other cancer agencies in the provision of advice, information and services relevant to the communities of Brent, for example with the recent Pandemic, dealing with a number of domestic abuse and mental health related-crisis.

Other Information

Along with 7 other CCGs in the area, NHS Brent Clinical Commissioning Group has been incorporated into a new CCG from 1st April 2021 - North West London Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). A period of review is required from April 2021 to agree the future model of care and to identify the commissioning strategies for services across NW London for the coming year and beyond. The existing contract is therefore being modified to extend its duration for an interim period of 6 months in order to enable this review to take place
