Description

The ambition of this commissioning exercise is to procure a universal smoking cessation service to deliver comprehensive, person-centred, high-quality smoking cessation interventions and support to Bristol residents. As a key part of a wider tobacco control system and strategy, the service will increase the number of people who are engaging with effective interventions to quit smoking and increase the number of people who successfully quit smoking. In doing so, the service will address the leading cause of health inequalities and work towards reducing these in Bristol.

Total Quantity or Scope

The intention is to commission a new smoking cessation service as the current contract ends on 30th June 2025. The smoking cessation support will be in line with NICE guidance and NCSCT clinical standards of behavioural interventions. New ‘Smokefree Generation: Stopping the Start’ funding has provided an opportunity to expand existing provision, and we are commissioning a service which will support Bristol to achieve the national smokefree ambition of <5% smoking prevalence. The service provider will contribute to this by achieving or exceeding OHIDs for new quit dates set for Bristol by 31st March 2029. We will ensure that our services are providing high quality evidence based smoking cessation interventions to all residents of Bristol whilst ensuring that the principle of proportionate universalism is applied, and health inequalities in smoking harms are reduced. The service will be embedded throughout services and communities across Bristol and will work in collaboratively with key partners to design bespoke interventions, drop in clinics and referral pathways as required to appropriately support high priority groups. Complete, accurate, and timely data reporting is vital for reporting use of the grant funding to the Department of Health and Social Care as well as progress against targets.
