Description
The project will repaint Blackfriars Bridge (Spans 1, 3 and 4), including the gilding of embellishments where appropriate. This will significantly improve the aesthetics of the structure and protect its fabric. The project will also repair the parapets to prevent future water ingress and protect the structure. Spans 2 and 5 have been completed under a separate contract. Gateway 5 for the project was approved May 2021. Previous works contract was tendered for Phase 1 which has now ended with the 40% of the total work completed. The full scope of the project was not completed due to access restrictions i.e. due to Tideway Tunnel project in the Thames adjacent to the Blackfriars Bridge.

Award Criteria
| 1. Experience | Please give details of the organisation's previous experience of major bridge refurbishment works, with specific reference to major river crossings and heritage Civil Engineering structures, where possible. Please state: - • the names of any clients for whom the organisation has performed the work; • the scope of your company’s involvement (i.e. main or sub-consultant); • the dates and durations the contract(s); • the approximate value of the contract(s); and the range of services offered. |
| 2. Refurbishment and Maintenance | Please outline how you would undertake the parapet refurbishment and maintenance painting, including details of the access arrangements and outline site compound proposals. |
| 3. Organisation’s competency | Please provide information, that clearly and succinctly confirms your organisation’s competency towards undertaking the specified works, with particular reference to – • your ICATS registration and experience • number and qualifications of the ICATS registered staff, at the time of submission • Bridge and highway structures recoating experience. • Cast Iron refurbishment experience |
