Full service specification indicates needs for one Duty Doctor between the following hours – Monday to Saturday - 18.00 – 08.00 = 5 x 14 hours Saturday and Sunday – 08.00 – 08.00 = 2 x 24 hours Public Holidays 24 hour provision as determined by the Authority each year.

Nairn Health Care Group is the sole GP practice serving the Nairn and Ardersier population following a merger in 2012. The service in question is intrinsically linked to the provision of primary care within this locality and cannot be delivered by any other provider without significant disruption to continuity of care and patient safety. There are no other practices within the area to deliver this service, and establishing a new provider would require structural changes that are disproportionate and impractical. A competitive tender exercise was conducted in 2023,which resulted in only one compliant submission—from Nairn Health Care Group—further evidencing the absence of market competition.
