Legal Justification
During the vessel’s scheduled docking period, Marine Directorate became aware of a significant and unforeseeable defect in the replacement tail-shaft seal housing supplied by manufacturer. Although the component had been ordered and supplied in good faith, it was only once the original housing was removed and inspected on 29 October 2025 that it became clear the supplied unit was the wrong configuration. A replacement part was ordered from Japan but due to pressure of having to leave the dry dock, a temporary fix was arranged. The temporary fix was unsuccessful and is causing oil leakage. This requires the vessel to be dry docked again to avoid potential oil leakage, breaching environmental regulations, risk of damage to the tail-shaft bearings and stern-tube system and loss of class compliance if the issue is not addressed promptly.
