This was a re-procurement to replace Mainframe Micro Processor Requirements which had been classed as end of life. The current Infrastructure Storage requirement was obtained via a competitive tender by SLC reference 2020-SLC-357. The hardware supplied was manufactured by IBM under the manufacturers branding of IBM Power. As the SLC estate currently has IBM equipment throughout, to move away from this manufacturer would take a vast investment in both time and money. Therefore, for technical and financial reasons, the equipment specification needs to continue with IBM.

It should be noticed the original notice had both IBM Power and Storage requirements on one tender activity with two LOTS. Due to business reasons two separate tenders were issued one with each Lot. As a separate contract award notice has been published for the IBM Storage requirements it was not possible to link the notice to this award at the appropriate section.
