Legal Justification
The Council manage a significant number of complex capital projects annually using standard form contractual documentation, primarily the NEC suite of contracts. These contracts require significant project management with issues that arise in the course of contract management needing to be documented in a manner that is commonly understood between the Client, Project Manager, Lead contractor and sub-contractors. Where changes are proposed to the contract, documenting those change are fundamental in avoiding legal disputes. Over the last four years the Council has applied the Sypro Contract Management System to facilitate the management of the contracting process in relation to a number of specific contracts. The platform enables each party to the contract to initiate action and record formal steps within the contracting process within a single integrated structure that incorporates detailed workflows that accord with the contract. This promotes compliance with the contractual requirements, ensures documenting of any changes that take place in the course of a contract, promotes efficient working and facilitates overview and auditing of the process.
