Description
Where a death is considered, sudden, traumatic, unnatural the Coroner may have to undertake an investigation. In certain cases, this may result in a post mortem examination being carried out. It is also the Coroner's responsibility to remove bodies from the scene of death to the mortuary, pending an investigation into the death. Cases that require body removal are mainly limited to community deaths as opposed to hospital deaths. The current contract for this service has been awarded to 3 providers, each of whom serve a geographical region of the county (with a degree of flexibility). The current contract is due to expire on 31st May 2026 and re-procurement is now being considered under the PA2023.

| Quality criterion 1 (Lot 0) | What would you need to consider when removing a deceased to the mortuary following a road traffic collision or collision on a railway? Please include method statements and/or job role descriptions to support your answer. 1000 words max (Additional attachments are not included in the word count, for example method statements) |
| Quality criterion 2 (Lot 0) | Please detail how you would manage and fulfil multiple collections on any given night, both for routine and coroner collections? 500 words max |
| Quality criterion 3 (Lot 0) | Please detail the risks and mitigations that you would take into account relating to the collection/transportation of deceased and the subsequent storage at your premises. Max 500 words . Please include a copy of relevant risk assessments if these are available. (Additional attachments are not included in the word count, i.e. risk assessments) |
| Quality criterion 4 (Lot 0) | How would you manage requests, during office hours, for deceased to be moved between locations to ensure the process meets the needs of the Coroner? 500 words max. |
| Quality criterion 5 (Lot 0) | Social Value. Describe what your organisation will do in order to deliver Social Value across the lifetime of this contract. The responses should be specific, measurable and relevant. For the Coroner’s Removal Service, some suggested Social Value approaches which could be incorporated into the contract could include; the introduction of Mental Health First Aiders within the Service Provider organisation, regular volunteer days to support local charitable organisations, or collaboration with local schools and colleges to develop career opportunities.
