Replacement of Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) Hardware and Peripherals. This contract was put in place for the Post Office to have the ability to procure hardware and replacement devices (spares) to operate its business operations across the UK. This included all counter hardware, operating systems and printers, scanners and handheld devices.

Legal Justification

It has become necessary to procure an additional number of counters and spares required to be refreshed to ensure service continuity. A change of contractor could not be made for technical reasons and reasons of interoperability because it would have required a change in hardware along with the requirement to recreate operating system image builds and resolve driver incompatibilities. Changing contractor would lead to significant duplication of cost, time delays and operational complexity. A change of contractor would also require POL to manage multiple resellers or support arrangements for materially the same service, increasing contract management overhead, operation complexity and interface risk.
