West Yorkshire ICB is undertaking a Market Engagement Exercise to assess the level of interest from suitably qualified providers to deliver a Community Urgent Eye Service (CUES) to people who reside within the Leeds District.

West Yorkshire ICB is undertaking a Market Engagement Exercise to assess the level of interest from suitably qualified providers to deliver a Community Urgent Eye Service (CUES) to people who reside within the Leeds District.The purpose of this service would be to provide rapid assessment and treatment for sudden-onset, urgent eye problems, such as red/painful eyes, flashes, floaters, or sudden vision changes.This would be for all ages, requiring self-referral for remote or face-to-face appointments, not walk-ins.Current Delivery ModelService users call the single point of service access number, following initial screening eligible service users are triage. Service users are then provided with a telephone or video consultation with an optometrist or a face-to-face appointment at a local opticians. The high-level objectives of the service are:• Convenience and Access: Allowing service users to see an eye care specialist locally within agreed timeframe based on presenting symptoms.• Reduced Hospital and GP service Burden: Shifting management of acute conditions (red eye, flashes/floaters) from GP services and secondary care (hospitals) to community primary care.• Expert Diagnosis: Offering prompt triage and treatment by optometrists and independent prescribing optometrists using advanced diagnostics.• Patient Equity: ensuring access to free, immediate care for sudden-onset urgent eye conditions.
