Description

• Commissioners are looking to procure an Integrated Community Equipment Loan Service across Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield from April 2027. • The service will be jointly commissioned by NHS South Yorkshire ICB and the three Local Authorities, supporting adults and children with assessed needs to live as independently and safely as possible in their own homes. • The service plays a critical role in supporting hospital discharge and the Home First priorities, preventing avoidable admissions, reducing falls, supporting independence, and delaying or avoiding the need for residential or nursing care. • Demand is expected to increase as care continues to shift from acute settings into the community, requiring a responsive, seven-day service model. • The successful provider will be responsible for the end‑to‑end management of community equipment, including procurement, storage, delivery, installation, maintenance, repair, recall, collection, decontamination, recycling and disposal. Both standard catalogue equipment and specialist equipment (including paediatric and bespoke items) must be managed in line with clinical safety standards, manufacturer guidance and statutory requirements. • A core principle of the service is value for money through a credit‑based reuse model. Equipment is actively recalled when no longer required, refurbished where appropriate, and returned to stock to minimise new purchases, reduce waste and maximise environmental sustainability. The new service model will have a greater emphasis on more active recall of items.
