Description
Lot 5 Marine litter removal (at scale) Identify key actions to minimise incidental seabird mortality and that specifically reduce sources of litter that impact on seabird survival and resilience. Consider litter from both domestic (e.g. dropped litter) and industrial sources (e.g. fishing nets). Consider prevention actions that could support delivery of this measure. Consider removal from terrestrial (breeding sites, beaches) and marine (seabird foraging areas) habitats. We anticipate that to be effective this measure would need to implemented at a large spatial scale, consider the appropriate spatial scales for implementation of this measure. Also consider just transition approaches in implementation and alignment with the Scottish Marine Litter Strategy.

Indicators
- Contract modified due to additional needs.
Legal Justification
- The depth of technical knowledge and experience in prior and ongoing stakeholder engagement, combined with the detailed in-depth understanding of the path taken to completion of this complex work to date is critical to the success of this project (this being the first time compensatory measures have been considered at this scale). To ensure robust, accurate, meaningful and fit for purpose outputs, it is essential the final reports are delivered by the original contractors. - SG do not have the capacity to facilitate a handover between the current and potential new contractors – whose appointment and need to rapidly familiarise themselves with the background and work completed to date would result in a substantive waste of internal resources and significant duplication of effort and costs.
