Description

The Connecting the Culm (CtC) project is about working with nature and local communities, to help make the River Culm and its catchment better for wildlife and people, and more resilient to flood and drought. Connecting the Culm has been running for 8 years already and has a 25-year Blueprint for Delivery. There are a number of complimentary projects within the CtC programme, including work with Network Rail and through DRIP and Grant in Aid. The two project implementation sites which form this tender submission are located at: 1. Mountstephen farm (near Tiverton Parkway) 2. Little Turberfield (near Tiverton Parkway) Each site consists of a series of nature based solutions, designed to tackle water quality failures from high risk outfalls off the M5 motorway. National Highways HEWRAT tool is being used to determine the scale and size of mitigation measures required. The purpose of the project is to: • Improve the water quality in the Spratford Stream by filtering out sediment and pollutants from a National Highway M5 outfall. • Increase biodiversity in the Spratford Stream's catchment.
